How Do You Bring Twitter Down?

Post a superstar selfie and beg fans to make history by retweeting the photo.

Oscar host, Ellen DeGeneres, did just that during tonight's Academy Awards telecast and -- guess what? -- it worked.

Pictured:  Jared Leto, Jennifer Lawrence, Channing Tatum, Meryl Streep, Ellen DeGeneres, Julia Roberts, Kevin Spacey, Brad Pitt, Bradley Cooper, Lupita Nyong'o, Angelina Jolie and Peter Nyong'o (the only non-celebrity...until now).

From Russia, With (Faux Lesbian) Love

Since the Winter Olympics are wrapping up, I thought I'd share my favorite Russian "thing" of all time.  That's not to say there aren't a lot of great things and people that the country has produced, but this is my personal number one.

What Are They Thinking?

The following picture, taken by a journalist who is in Sochi to cover the Winter Olympics, is straight out of my nightmares.

Do you think this is a new competition?  Are the chairs for the judges?  Can you score more than a number one or a number two?

Beep! Beep! Ciao!

Given an unlimited fuel supply, would you rather ride from Miami, Florida to Seattle, Washington on a Razor Pocket Mod Miniature Euro Electric Scooter...

...or ride from San Diego, California to Bangor, Maine on a Currie Technologies eZip E450 Electric Scooter?

And don't worry about the weather because it's perfect in this scenario.

Goodbye to Childhood Friends

The world lost two American television icons from the 1960s-1970s today.  Russell Johnson, who played the Professor on "Gilligan's Island," and Dave Madden, who played band manager Reuben Kincaid on "The Partridge Family," both passed away on January 16, 2014.  Johnson was 89, Madden was 82.

Farewell, friends.

What Is Your Favorite Everly Brothers Song?

Phil Everly, one half of the musical duo The Everly Brothers, passed away yesterday at the age of 74.  He and his brother were one of my mom's all-time favorite acts, so I grew up listening to her old 45s.  I can't really name one song of theirs that I like the best, but I do remember thinking that "Bird Dog" was incredibly funny when I was small.

Do you have a favorite song by the Everly Brothers?  If so, give it a listen today in tribute.

Thank you for the music, Phil.  Rest in peace.

I Hate You, Cancer

New Year's Day is usually a time to celebrate new beginnings, but, for me, today was probably the last time I will see one of my best friends alive.

He has cancer.  He has fought and fought and lived longer than he was "supposed" to.  He is one of the strongest people I've ever known, but now he's dying.  It's close.

He kept saying he was sorry.  He said he wished we had more time to talk, but he didn't have the energy.  And I didn't need him to talk.  I already know.

I hope he knows too.
